(NCG) Leading Modern Secondary School in Lagos and Nigeria.
In 11th November 1955, National College was founded under the name of "Collegiate Institute of Commerce" by Chief Alfred Olayiwola Dosunmu Ainnah as a private secondary commercial school at Ebute Metta before it acquired its first permanent site at idi-Oro, Mushin, Lagos in the late 1960s Yaba. The school had only seven (7) students at inception. The land at Bariga, Gbagada, was acquired on the 11th November, 1957 and the first set of students was presented for the R.S.A Examinations in 1958. The school operated successfully for twenty one (21) years before the then Military Government took it over in 1976.
The college was converted to State school under the civilian adminstration of Governor Lateef Jakande. It is interesting to note that the college was returned back to the original owners in 2001 by Governor Ahmed Tinubu. The school re-opened as a private school on Tuesday, 2nd October, 2001 with about 80 members of teaching staff and about 3000 students. National College Gbagada, is a school of repute as evidenced in the various awards and academic laurels she has won over the years of existence.
Our college has reasons to be proud of its long and strong tradition coupled with its enviable achievements, making it our prayer and our hope that present and future generations will be inspired by the past and in such a way that their own lives will be characterized by integrity and a highly developed spirit which will, in turn, further strengthen the tradition and achievements of the school in the years to come.
